Education : Music program

To talk about education in music, there’re many universities that have a bachelor degree about music, but their programs focus on different purposes. As in Kasetsart University, there’s music program that focus on creating music performer.

How to enroll in this program?? In every September, department of arts which is part of faculty of humanities, will open for student who have a music skill and want to apply to this program. The music program divided into 2 programs: Western music and Thai music. All candidates must take 3 general subjects: Thai language, Social and English, and a music subject which their paper test differs between western music and Thai music. In other words, the candidates who want to enroll in western music, their music paper test will have 70% in western music questions and 30% in Thai music questions. All candidates need to have music knowledge not only their music, but also other music.

After the departments of arts publish a list of candidate’s names that passed the paper test and have an opportunity to take a music practical test. The candidate must prepare their pieces and some technical works: scales, arpeggio and sight reading. The practical test will test on October with 2 examiners. Additionally, while the candidate is performing their piece, the examiner sometimes interrupts you, but not because of their terrible song, the examiners have many candidates to look into.

The result of practical test will publish on November. Later, candidate might have a interview with 4-5 interviewers who are the professor of department of arts. In every academic year, the department of arts will accept 20 students for western music and 20 students for Thai music.

No matter how much you failed or passed. It doesn’t the result of life. If you want to be a good musician, the good way of improving your music skill is still PRACTICE. In conclusion, the more you practice, the better you do.
